St. Anthony Regional Development Conference Highlights

The Grenfell Office of Engagement and the Town of St. Anthony organized a conference November 15-18, 2016 entitled: Our Way Forward: Sharing Knowledge and Building Capacity for Regional Development. The conference was held at Grenfell Historic Properties in St. Anthony NL and had more than 100 participants, with presenters, panelists and attendees hailing from across Canada. The purpose of the event was to highlight opportunities and foster a space for discussion about future development in the Great Northern Peninsula region of Newfoundland and Labrador. Four key areas of opportunity for the region framed the discussions: Regional Governance, Fisheries and the Port, Tourism, and Entrepreneurship/Innovation. The conference emerged from research being conducted for the SSHRC-funded project, Canadian Regional Development: A Critical Review of Theory, Practice and Potentials. Several Rural Resilience researchers participated in this event including: Vodden (Organizer, Presenter), Carter (Organizer, Presenter), Hall (Keynote), Gibson (Keynote), Lam (Presenter), Walsh (Presenter), Butters (Panelist, Report lead), and Islam (Community radio/event volunteer). For more on this event download the report or visit GO Engagement’s website.
