The Positive Post

About the Project

In spring 2019, rural community development leaders, researchers, and support organizations gathered in Norris Point for the New Rural Story Forum. This participatory event was aimed at finding ways to change the narrative that is told about rural communities and regions in Newfoundland and Labrador, shifting away from the overwhelming focus on stories of decline and hardship towards highlighting stories of renewal and strength. One of the outcomes of that forum was the idea of creating a new media channel to start telling that new rural story – called the Positive Post. The first edition of the Positive Post is a participatory report and reflection on the New Rural Story Forum from participants of the workshop. Future editions of the Positive Post will focus on a variety of topics related to sustaining rural NL communities and will be based on the interest and input of those who contribute. The first edition of the Post was launched at the PLACE Dialogues forum in Petty Harbour on October 25th, 2019.
