Sarah Minnes, an interdisciplinary PhD student and Project Coordinator for the 2013-2014 Newfoundland and Labrador rural drinking water study, recently had her article, Troubled waters? The state of rural drinking water in Newfoundland and Labrador, published in the Newfoundland Quarterly. This article summarizes several of the major findings that emerged from the provincial study. Drinking water in rural Newfoundland and Labrador varies in quality and quantity. Overall, changes are needed in policy, planning, governance, and management of drinking water systems, particularly in communities of 1,000 or less, to ensure access to safe and reliable drinking water for current and future generations.
