National Housing Day Forum
On National Housing Day, November 22, 2022, the research team of Quantifying Housing Needs in Western Newfoundland project held a housing forum at the Center for Research and Innovation in Corner Brook from 1 PM to 3 PM as part of Grenfell Campus’s Research Week celebrations. At the event, the research team presented their findings to various housing stakeholders in the region and beyond.
The Quantifying Housing Needs in Western Newfoundland project was a collaboration between the Community Mental Health Initiative (CMHI), the Grenfell Campus of the Memorial University of Newfoundland, and Newfoundland and Labrador Housing (NL Housing) and was funded through the Reaching Home program of the Government of Canada.
The hybrid forum had over 40 participants joining both in-person and virtually. Participants included housing service providers, municipal governments, Indigenous organizations, health service providers, mental health service providers, not-for-profits, researchers, students, and other individuals.
After presenting their findings, the research team held four breakout sessions (3 groups in-person and 1 online) where participants were engaged in a discussion to gather their views towards influencing action and further research. In the course of the discussion, notes were recorded and shared with the entire group after the discussions. A report from these discussions will be provided on the project website, where the report and report summary can also be found.
